About

Welcome to Apologia 2.1, The Catholic blog that helps you strengthen, understand, and defend your faith against the great challenges of the 21st century.

Apologia (ἀπολογία) is a Greek word which means “to speak in defense” of someone or something —nothing to do with apologize. Christians have practiced apologetics since the first century—not only to explain our faith (evangelize) but also to defend it when attacked or criticized.

Today, we find ourselves increasingly surrounded by atheists and Protestants who either misunderstand or reject our beliefs. Moreover, many consider Catholics born after the 1960s to be the least well-prepared generation in our history, making them an easy target at a time when challenges are at their peak.

Basic Catholicism is no longer enough in these times of constant attacks from multiple fronts. Our articles do not aim to provide a brief and concise overview of each topic; instead, they delve deeply into the subject matter, anticipating any arguments or objections that might arise. In this way, you receive a thorough formation and develop a solid defense. Not suitable for the lukewarm.

Hopefully, you might also feel inspired to share your new knowledge with love and respect, just as Peter said:

Always be prepared to offer an explanation to anyone who asks you to justify the hope that is in you. However, do so with gentleness and respect.” (1 Peter 3:15)

WHO ARE WE?

We are lay Catholic thinkers—not priests or theologians—and do not claim to speak on behalf of the Church. However, we strive to always remain within the Magisterium, not straying a single inch from it, as it is the framework and heritage that no Catholic, not even the Pope, can challenge. Like the builders of medieval cathedrals, we seek not personal glory but the greater glory of God. You may call us Christian Valparaiso.
